FORGE FIRE FEAST Blacksmithing workshops

Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th October

FORGE FIRE FEAST is a collaboration with Roth Bar & Grill and Pole and Hunt. Here at Roth Bar & Grill, we love to cook over live fire and our tools play an important part of this.  Alex Pole & Ed Hunt are two very talented, local craftsmen renowned for their modern and traditional techniques. Together, they aim to promote British blacksmithing and knife making, making them accessible, and affordable, to the general public.

This is a one hour blacksmithing taster session where participants will make either a bottle opener, fire steel or toasting fork. Alex & Ed will introduce some of the basic approaches and techniques used in the forge including, how to work steel at different temperatures, how to judge the heat of the metal and how to taper, scroll and twist your metal on the anvil for the best results.  (Over 16s only please.)

About Pole and Hunt
Pole and Hunt is a collaboration between Alex Pole Ironwork and Holdsworth Hunt Knives.  Alex has been working as a blacksmith for over 25 years. He forges the blades from British high carbon steel, profiles the style and finally tempers the knife ready to pass on.  Ed, who has spent many years living in Spain and honing his skills as a knife maker, then heat treats, grinds and makes the handles individually for each knife.

Their knives are unique in that all materials are sourced from within the UK, as close to Alex’s forge or Ed’s workshop as possible, and are entirely made by them. They are currently working with apple wood from storm damaged trees found in the orchard next to the forge.  Between them they make a wide range of both utility and chef’s knives and have a collection that will take you from field to fork.
