Open Farm Sunday
Sunday 27th June, 10 AM – 5 PM
This June, we will be joining over 1,000 farms across the UK in Open Farm Sunday, an annual initiative celebrating the diversity of British farming and the many ways in which the countryside can be farmed, foraged, and maintained. It is a fantastic opportunity for families to discover first hand what it means to be a farmer, where our food comes from, and how to nurture and live in harmony with the land.
Beyond the site, Durslade is a working farm made up of over 1,000 acres and we have recently opened Durslade Farm Shop, where we celebrate local farmers, makers and artisans. This year we are welcoming some special suppliers for the day, including guest cheesemongers Trethowan Brothers. We will also welcome Somerset Wildlife Trust.
Our Durslade Farm team will be behind the butchery counter to talk about our farming practices and livestock breeds, whilst the butchery team do a lamb butchery and sausage making demonstration.
Throughout the rest of the site, there will be a display of vintage tractors as well as new farm machinery to discover and explore, such as combine harvesters, John Deere and Fendt tractors. Families can meet the animals, and children can join in with the ‘Bee-bomb’ workshop and biscuit decorating. Our foraging experts, Kenny Jelfs and Greg Powers will be taking groups on ‘Wild Walks’ throughout the day, exploring foraged finds in the hedgerows and nearby woodland.
From midday, Roth Bar & Grill will be serving a Durslade Farm BBQ feast inspired by the newly opened Hauser & Wirth Somerset exhibition, Eduardo Chillida. The menu will include chorizo buns with chargrilled sweet peppers and chappa patatas bravas. There will also be hot dogs for children and a limited bar offering of soft drinks, beer and cider.
Roth Bar and Grill will be open as usual for breakfast and Sunday Lunch service.
The galleries and garden will be open 10 am – 5pm with two new exhibitions celebrating the work of Eduardo Chillida and Gustav Metzger. To book your visit please register HERE.
This is a free event and all are welcome.
